Sheryl Lee Ralph, the Tony-nominated star of Dreamgirls, is slated to take over from Judy Kaye in the long-running Wicked. Kaye’s last performance is intended to be on October 30th, at a show which will also mark the production’s 13th year on stage.
Ralph’s Tony nod comes from her star-making turn as Deena in Dreamgirls. Her first Broadway appearance was as a part of Reggae, and she’s most recently trod the boards in the 2002 showing of Thoroughly Modern Millie as Muzzy. Her biggest claim to fame might be playing Dee Mitchell on Moesha, though TV fans will also remember her from Ray Donovan, Instant Mom, and It’s a Living.
